Welcome
Because of the unique environmental value around the
region of the Lake of Kastoria and of five artificial
lakes, to be established by the construction of five
new dams in the prefecture (Vasileiadas, Germa, Agios
Antonios, Nestorio, and Ano Mela), the Prefecture of
Kastoria, realizing the need for a comprehensive
environmental protection of the region, implemented
this project, optimizing its role in the management of
natural and built environment.
In addition, the Prefecture of Kastoria with the
creation of the Information System is aiming at the
sustainable development of the region and it’s
promotion as a tourist resort.
Around the region of the Lake and the areas surrounding
the dams, there is the need for monitoring mainly the
following:

The quantity and the quality of the waters
·
The underwater vegetation
·
The riparian zone
·
Fauna
Condition for sustainable development in the region is
the importance of the lake areas and the need to
conserve environmental resources at a high level of
quality. Therefore the Prefecture of Kastoria,
advertising the region from the website and publishing
the activities of the project, showing active
participation and consensus of all stakeholders through
the exchange of information and dynamic use of data and
applications of the project and the sustainable
development of the region, by strengthening the local
economy and environmental protection. implements this
project, in order to raise the standards of the region
from regional – remote into a visiting destination.
This project optimizes the role of the Prefecture of
Kastoria in managing environmental issues. It also
promotes the role of the Prefecture in the field of
sustainable development, exploiting the lake areas as
alternative tourist getaway. Thus, creating new
business opportunities and work positions for the local
population, on its own will create a better quality of
life and promote the need of environmental protection.
Finally, through this project the Prefecture of
Kastoria is using in the best possible way the
principles of the Information Society, implementing at
regional level an innovative project that will
highlight the region and bring it in a prominent
position in the digital environment created in our
country.
